Paper trading competition rules: a student organisation template
Rules build trust. This outline gives organisers a starting point; adapt it to your institution's policies and publish the final version before registration closes.
Eligibility and participation
State who can participate, whether membership is required, and whether each participant needs one paper account. Include a single point of contact for eligibility questions.
Competition window
Publish the start time, end time, timezone, registration deadline, and when standings will be final. Avoid changing these once the competition has started except to address a clearly documented operational issue.
Scoring and ranking
Describe the ranking metric in plain language and link to an explanation of any risk-adjusted measure. Explain how ties, incomplete data, and technical interruptions are handled.
- Use the same scoring window for every participant.
- Record the rules version alongside final standings.
- Do not present simulated performance as investment advice.
Conduct and enforcement
Prohibit manipulation, false identities, and attempts to interfere with the platform or leaderboard. Explain the review process and who can make a final ruling for the student organisation.
